Periodontitis is bacterial inflammation of the gum and jawbone (periodontium). It is the most widespread infectious disease worldwide. Bleeding gums, pockets in the gum and bone, reddened gums, bad breath and tooth loosening can be signs of it.

The main causes of periodontitis are overstressing the teeth, smoking, poor oral hygiene and hereditary factors.
